Dr Samuel Duff is an Australian trained orthopaedic surgeon who completed his specialist training in Perth, after graduating with honours from the University of Western Australia.


During his training he was awarded the Australian Medical Association Prize and the Campbell and Annie Murdoch Prize for the highest grades in his respective training years. In addition he was awarded The Royal Perth Hospital Prize in Medicine and the Medical Graduates Associates Prize.


He undertook further studies to complete orthopaedic specialist training with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association.


After completing his orthopaedic surgical training he worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Toowoomba, Queensland. He then completed fellowships in hip and knee surgery with Dr Price Gallie based at the Gold Coast University Hospital. Here he gained extensive experience with robotic knee replacement surgery, Anterior Cruciate ligament reconstruction and hip replacement and revision surgeries.


Following this he undertook a further fellowship in foot and ankle surgery with Dr Ben Forster and Dr Michael Lutz based at The Mater Hospital, Brisbane. Here he gained experience in sporting and occupational conditions of the foot and ankle. He has completed numerous visitations to gain insights from prominent orthopaedic surgeons.


Samuel has special interest in:



• primary and revision arthroplasty (anterior hip and knee)


• anterior approach hip replacement


• soft tissue / sports knee surgery and knee arthroscopy


• sporting and occupational conditions and injuries of the foot and ankle


• robotic knee replacement – (total and partial)


• anterior approach hip replacement


• revision hip and knee surgery


• lower limb sports injuries


• foot and ankle trauma and surgery



• Previously, Dr Duff qualified and worked as a physiotherapist and therefore understands the rehabilitation required after musculoskeletal injury and orthopaedic surgery.


• Outside of work he enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife Vanessa and raising their three young children. He speaks proficient Spanish and has a keen interest in research and aid work.


• Samuel currently performs orthopaedic procedures at St John of God Subiaco Hospital and is happy to provide GPs with advice on managing a variety of orthopaedic conditions.
