Dr De Silva is an Australian and American-trained medical oncologist with broad international experience across four continents, including Europe and South Asia. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Melbourne, in collaboration with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He further completed advanced clinical and research fellowship training at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre (MSKCC, New York), where he combined clinical oncology with hands-on genomic experimentation, bridging advanced science with real-world care.
He currently holds public appointments at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre & Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he integrates cutting-edge research with compassionate, personalised treatment. He is actively involved in national cancer genetics programs and is committed to integrating genomic insights into everyday cancer care. With a strong focus on breast, lung, and complex cancers, dedicated to uncovering the underlying drivers of disease through precision and genomic medicine.
Where appropriate, Dr De Silva prioritises targeted or immune-based therapies over conventional chemotherapy. He remains deeply engaged in research and contributes to multiple projects aimed at improving outcomes and personalising cancer treatment.
