Simon completed his medical degree and surgical degree through Melbourne University and St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. Following specialist registration he worked as a Senior Registrar & Junior Consultant in London for a two year period before returning to Geelong.
Although initially practicing a broad spectrum of general surgery, his interests have narrowed and now he is involved in gastrointestinal malignancies and related issues, provides endoscopic services (both gastroscopy and colonoscopy) and has a major interest in proctology. Additionally he continues to perform cholecystectomy and has a large practice of abdominal wall and inguinal hernial surgery both open and laparoscopic.
In his private rooms at St John of God Geelong Hospital, he performs a large number of procedures under local anaesthetic including toenails, lumps and bumps and minor skin grafting. Simon is currently practicing in public at University Hospital – Geelong where he is the Clinical Director of General Surgery and Head of Surgical Unit One.
