Dr David Chieng is an electrophysiologist who specializes in the management of heart rhythm disturbances, including cardiac arrhythmia ablation (SVT, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia) and cardiac device implantation (pacemaker, defibrillator, cardiac resynchronization therapy). He also manages other adult cardiovascular conditions.


He holds a public appointment as a consultant cardiologist at the Alfred Hospital.


He is an IBHRE certified cardiac device specialist, as well as holding GCertClinUS and CCDS qualifications.


He completed his medical degree with a SWANS scholarship through the University of Western Australia, winning multiple academic prizes. He completed his postgraduate and cardiology training in Perth, during which he was awarded the St John of God Subiaco Hospital Pomegranate Award for outstanding patient care. This was followed by a four-year clinical fellowship training in electrophysiology and pacing at the Alfred Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital. He completed his PhD with the support of three prestigious scholarships - NHMRC/NHF/Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute Bright Sparks scholarship.


He has been recognised nationally and internationally for his achievements in clinical research by being awarded 17 young investigator awards to date, including the prestigious awards of Eric N. Prystowsky Fellow Clinical Researcher Award 2023, Paul Korner Medal for Outstanding PhD Achievements 2021, Young Investigator Award at the 14th and 15th Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Congress (Suzhou 2021, Singapore 2022), Noel and Imelda Foster Prize for Cardiovascular Research 2022, and the Heart Failure Prize, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand ASM 2022.
