Dr Sam Alhayo is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon practising at Grampians Health Ballarat, Ballarat Surgical Clinic in Victoria. He completed advanced post-fellowship training through the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (AANZGOSA), undertaking high-volume fellowships in Australia and the United Kingdom at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
Dr Alhayo specialises in the management of oesophageal and gastric cancer, benign upper gastrointestinal disorders, reflux disease, hiatus and para-oesophageal hernias, achalasia, gallbladder disease, abdominal wall hernias, and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, as well as metabolic and bariatric surgery.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Alhayo is actively involved in academic surgery and clinical research. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and presented his work at numerous national and international meetings. He is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care through multidisciplinary collaboration, with a focus on achieving excellent surgical outcomes while ensuring patients remain well informed and supported throughout their treatment journey.
