Dr Hazem Akil is an experienced and highly qualified Australian-trained Melbourne neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon. He consults in greater Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Dr Akil has travelled the world, receiving training and expertise in some of the best neurosurgical centres, and deriving experience in a diverse range of areas in brain and spinal surgery. He underwent his postgraduate surgical training in the United Kingdom (Edinburgh and London) and was granted a full membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2004. Dr Akil then moved to Australia to further pursue surgical specialty training and was successful in gaining entry into the highly competitive Royal Australasian College of Surgeons neurosurgical training program.

Over a number of years of rigorous training in neurosurgery, Dr Akil gained invaluable experience in major neurosurgical units in both Sydney and Melbourne. He was then awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Neurosurgery.

Dr Akil then undertook further intensive training in advanced and complex spine surgery. He undertook a prestigious AO Spine fellowship under the guidance of Dr Geoffrey Askin in Brisbane. Dr Akil applies state-of-the-art techniques, including minimally invasive surgery and artificial disc replacement, to the treatment of a range of spinal conditions, including disc prolapse, degenerative spinal disease, tumours, and spinal trauma.

Dr Akil prides himself on providing every patient timely, compassionate and personalised care of the highest standard.

With a special interest in diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders, peripheral nerve pathology, and brain tumours, Dr Akil’s philosophy is that surgical management should be tailored and individualised. He works closely with a team of like-minded specialists at Precision Brain Spine and Pain to deliver high quality integrated medical care.

Dr Akil consults at a variety of locations including Cranbourne, Dandenong, Doncaster East, Essendon, Kew, Pakenham, Toorak, Bendigo, and Mildura. He is pleased to see patients with private health insurance, DVA, TAC and WorkCover patients.
