Our ESG Roadmap

Our ESG Roadmap 2026–2030 outlines how we are reducing emissions, strengthening communities, and embedding responsible governance to protect health and wellbeing now and into the future.

7 May 2026

At St John of God Health Care, our Mission is to provide healing, hope and dignity especially for those most in need. By reducing pollution, conserving resources, and preparing for climate challenges, we aim to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our communities - especially those most vulnerable - now and into the future. This commitment is reflected in our progress toward a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030.

Our ESG Roadmap

As the world of health care evolves at a rapid pace, sustainability goes beyond protecting the environment; it also means fostering an inclusive workplace, advancing social justice, delivering equitable care, and ensuring we govern responsibly and transparently.

Our ESG Roadmap 2026–2030 builds on the progress we’ve already made under our 2022–2025 Environmental Sustainability Strategy and outlines our path to integrate sustainability into every facet of our work, caring for our common home and for those entrusted to our care.

Our ESG Roadmap 2026-2030 is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals and strengthens our commitment to:

  • Environmental
We are focussed on reducing emissions to support cleaner environments and healthier lives. This includes increasing our use of renewable electricity, encouraging energyefficient behaviours, optimising water use, and improving waste management.
  • Social responsibility
We invest in programmes that support our people and uplift our communities. Our commitments include maintaining excellent patient care outcomes, delivering social justice initiatives such as free and lowcost mental wellbeing and homelessness services, health care access and quality and local community need, strengthening caregiver engagement and wellbeing, promoting diversity and inclusion, and addressing modern slavery and corruption risks.
  • Governance
We aim to build trust and transparency through stronger governance practices. This includes improving governance reporting, enhancing governance capability, performance and accountability, and integrating ESG into governance structures. We also prioritise regulatory compliance, cyber and data security, privacy protection, and safeguarding vulnerable people.

This roadmap reflects who we are and is proof that our commitment to the environment, care and social justice runs deep.

It is also an important reminder that as a leading not-for-profit provider of high-quality health care and community support services, we play a vital role in the health care system. With no shareholders, we have an opportunity to reinvest our surpluses back into the communities we serve - supporting patients, caregivers, and providing free community services that make a real difference.
