Dr Bernadette McElhinney attended medical school in Ireland before completing her specialist obstetrics and gynaecological training in the UK.

In 2004 she spent a year in Australia completing a fellowship with the Oncology Unit at KEMH. Dr McElhinney returned to Australia in 2006 to take up a consultant post with the Endoscopy Team at KEMH. At this time, she studied a Master of Science in Advanced Gynaecological Endoscopy. Her main interests are endometriosis, fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, and pre-invasive disease of the lower genital tract (colposcopy). Bernadette is a senior lecturer at Notre Dame University and is regularly involved with teaching her medical and nursing colleagues.

She has also lectured and taught at national and international meetings. Dr McElhinney works mainly in the public sector but also has a private practice with regular lists at St John of God Subiaco Hospital.
