Where we are
Dr Gail Cross is an infectious diseases physician with extensive experience in the management of complex bacterial infections, including prosthetic joint infections, cardiovascular implantable device infections, and infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). She is frequently involved in the care of patients requiring multidisciplinary management, prolonged antimicrobial therapy, and coordinated medical–surgical decision-making.
Her clinical practice spans the diagnosis and treatment of severe and complicated infections in hospitalised patients, including infections in patients with chronic medical conditions. Dr Cross has worked across both Australian and international tertiary healthcare settings and has significant experience caring for patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Dr Cross graduated from Monash University in 2006 and completed specialist training in infectious diseases through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (2014). She later worked as a consultant infectious diseases physician in Singapore (2017 - 2022), where she managed complex inpatient infections in a large tertiary referral centre and held senior clinical leadership roles overseeing infectious diseases services.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Cross maintains an active research profile. Her research interests include tuberculosis as a research focus and clinical trials aimed at improving treatment outcomes in infectious diseases. She continues to combine clinical practice with research and teaching through appointments at Monash Health, Monash University and the Burnet Institute.
Dr Cross is committed to patient-centred, evidence-based care, with a strong emphasis on antimicrobial stewardship, collaborative care, and optimising outcomes for patients with complex infections.
