What is your role?
Midwife at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals.
Why did you chose to work with us?
I came to Australia from Ireland on a working holiday two years ago and initially went to Sydney. Sydney was not for me, so I decided to move to Perth. While here I did agency nursing at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals. I liked working on the maternity unit and they liked me, so an employment sponsorship was arranged so I could stay working at the hospital.
What are the benefits to you for coming to work with us?
There are many benefits to working at St John of God Health Care. I really enjoy working on the maternity ward and we have a great team. As well as the employment sponsorship, the conditions are great and there is flexibility regarding rosters. There are plenty of training opportunities and various courses we can attend, all of which help with career development.
How has your experience at working at the hospital been?
My experiences here have been very positive. My manager has been so supportive and I really enjoy working with a terrific team of midwives and other caregivers in the unit.
How was the experience of moving internationally to join us?
Moving to Australia was a bit difficult at first. I went to Sydney first but wasn’t keen on living there. Since I moved to Perth I’ve settled in really well and enjoy living here. I do miss my family and COVID-19 has made it difficult to go home for holidays, but everyone with family overseas is affected in the same way.
Why would you recommend our hospitals as great places to work?
I would recommend anyone wanting new career opportunities and who loves working alongside a fantastic team to consider moving to Perth and coming to work at St John of God Health Care. I love the lifestyle here and am very happy working for St John of God Health Care.
