A comprehensive range of classes is available to meet your needs whether you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.

Focus on lifestyle

A complimentary evening class for couples who are contemplating pregnancy, or who are in the early stages of pregnancy. A midwife, dietician and physiotherapist provide up-to-date information and education.

Preparation for childbirth

Designed for couples having their first child and cover labour, childbirth, parenting and breastfeeding. There are four two-hour sessions conducted by a midwife, with a focus on breastfeeding for the last session. Women should be 32 weeks pregnant at the start of this course.

Fastrak

Classes are held on Saturday and cover the same information as the Preparation for Childbirth sessions. This course is designed for couples having their first child and covers labour, childbirth, parenting and breastfeeding. Women should be 35 weeks pregnant to attend this course.

Refresher class

This free two-hour session reintroduces couples to the major concepts of labour, childbirth, parenting and breastfeeding. It is also an opportunity to discuss previous childbirth experiences.

 

Bookings are necessary for all classes and can be made with Murdoch Hospital after a parent education form is completed.

Maternity Unit tours

A midwife conducts maternity unit tours every Saturday and Sunday at 2.30pm. These are free of charge and bookings not necessary.
