Oncology clinical trials at Murdoch

A clinical trial is a research study that tests new and better ways of improving health and wellbeing. In a clinical trial, people volunteer to test new treatments, interventions or tests to help prevent, detect, treat or manage a disease or medical condition. This helps determine if a treatment is effective and safe and compares it to existing interventions.

Our clinical trials focus on improving treatments for people with cancers including breast, melanoma, colorectal, gastric, oesophageal, prostate, kidney, bladder and pancreas cancer.

  • Cancer is the leading cause of death in Australia, about one in two Australian men and one in three Australian women will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.
  • Clinical trials play an essential role in discovering new and more effective treatments for cancer.
  • Our trials focus on improving care for some of the most common cancers including lung, pancreas, breast, gastrointestinal, bladder, kidney and melanoma.
  • Great strides are being made in understanding cancer and we are working every day to achieve a better quality and quantity of life for patients.
  • Since opening in 2012, the Murdoch Oncology Clinical Trials Unit has focused on offering the most exciting and promising new cancer treatment with our trials bringing possible standard future treatments to the present.
  • The majority of clinical trials we participate in are collaborations with international cancer groups and sponsors which provide patients access to the most up-to-date drugs and treatment. Each trial is conducted under stringent scrutiny and monitoring from an independent ethics committee to ensure patient safety and wellbeing.
  • Our research focuses on immune-based, genetic and molecular targeted treatments for cancer.
  • We also collaborate with local and national universities including research in survivorship, exercise in cancer, and caring for carers.

We have 16 clinical trials underway and are currently recruiting participants with multiple new trials.
