• Neurosurgeons provide surgery to people for a range of central nervous system conditions including trauma, tumours, vascular malformations/aneurysms, infection, epilepsy and movement disorders.
  • The nervous system is a complex system including the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves which help all parts of the body communicate and function with each other.
  • While there have been many advances in this area, a lot more research needs to be done to ensure diseases and conditions affecting the nervous system can be treated safely and provide good outcomes.

Our neurosurgery research focuses on projects which will have clinical benefits for patients.

  • Great emphasis is placed on end-points of laboratory, clinic or technological research which improves treatment and clinical outcomes of our patients.
  • Collaborating with researchers of varied backgrounds at Curtin University, University of Western Australia and Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
  • Plans are underway to establish a bioengineering laboratory to develop novel medical technologies which will enhance the safety of surgeries performed on the brain and spine.
