St John of God Marillac
With changes well underway for access to disability homes from State Government funding to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), St John of God Marillac Homes is delivering innovative housing options incorporating the latest technology.
We work collaboratively with our Supported Independent Living (SIL) partners to deliver housing outcomes for people with a disability and their families.
Marillac is a wholly owned entity of St John of God Health Care dedicated to providing accommodation services for people with a disability. We are a Mission and Values based organisation in practice; we advocate for the most equitable system of disability support possible, throughout our housing services. We constantly review and develop practices and policies so that they do not disenfranchise any person we support or our partners.
Our homes provide a range of accommodation options and future disability homes built as part of our Innovative Housing Strategy will include simple, meaningful and repeatable technology principles, which will give our residents more choice and independence. These projects utilise a co-creating approach based on structuring the challenges and opportunities of clients, families and carers.
We have a range of existing housing properties through the Outer Eastern and Southern Regions of Melbourne, which we maintain to comply with NDIS standards plan to refurbish as part of our strategy.
Our commitment to provide high quality disability homes is evidenced by completed construction (July 2019) of a home in Brighton East, South of Melbourne designed for five people with complex intellectual disabilities. The investment of more than two million dollars for land, building and technology ensures we are leading the way in how we support people in housing.
The house, constructed to Special Disability Accommodation (SDA) standards, coupled with technology enhancements has provided valuable insights into the design of the next 10 homes we plan to build, with construction targeted to start in 2020 throughout metropolitan Melbourne. Working with our SIL partner we will officially open the homes to families for viewing in 2021.
