The performance, held Sunday 19 April, was generously donated by Mrs Gina Rinehart AO, supported by Hancock Prospecting and enjoyed by patients, visitors, caregivers, volunteers and medical specialists.

Known for their immersive style, the band performed a variety of uplifting classics, transforming the hospital’s central courtyard into a vibrant hub of song and celebration.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Tina Chinery said she was deeply grateful to Mrs Rinehart and Hancock Prospecting for their continued support of the hospital and for making this experience possible.

“It was wonderful to see the joy on peoples’ faces as the music filled our courtyard and flowed through to the wards. We know that music has the power to uplift, calm, and bring people together during times of vulnerability,” she said.

“A highlight of the visit was the band’s performance in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where highly specialised care is provided to babies who are born prematurely or require additional support.

“The band played gentle songs to provide a welcome moment of comfort for families during what can be a very challenging time.”

Rachel Holding, whose baby Theodore is being cared for in the NICU after being born a month early, said she and her husband Ashley loved the performance.

“It topped off a very special moment for us a family. Just five minutes earlier, my husband was able to hold Theodore for the first time, three days after he was born,” she said.

“Because Theodore arrived early, he’s in the NICU to support his breathing and make sure his lungs are developing well. It’s been a big few days and to have what felt like a private serenade was very special.

The band also performed for patients in the Intensive Care and Coronary Care Units.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital has a long and valued relationship with Mrs Rinehart.

Most recently, the Rinehart Medical Foundation funded the introduction of the hospital’s premium patient suites, which are redefining the patient experience and are the first of their kind in the State.

The Foundation was also a significant contributor to the establishment of the hospital’s Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre. In addition, Mrs Rinehart provides generous patient care packages for those who stay in the hospital longer than four days.
