Twenty five years ago, Sarah moved from Manchester to Perth, Western Australia, following a good friend with a passion for travel.

“She had told me how wonderful it was so I just packed my bags and off I went,” she said.

“It’s been amazing and I’ve stayed here ever since because I love the opportunities offered, the lifestyle, the beach, the blue skies, the weather – you just can’t beat it.”

Having worked in the public system for many years, Sarah said the culture was what drew her to St John of God Subiaco Hospital.

“It’s been four years since I started here and I love everything the hospital offers – I guess that’s why I’m still here,” she said.

With a background in theatres, Sarah began her career at St John of God Subiaco Hospital as Manager of Perioperative Services.

As new areas were introduced into the procedures arena, Sarah’s role grew.

“There are so many amazing opportunities here and when the position of Deputy Director of Nursing role came up, I had to apply,” she said.

“We now have a new, dedicated eye hospital across the road, which has been added to my portfolio, so that’s another area I’ve had to grow.

“Fortunately, I’ve had full support from the executive team to achieve this.”

When asked what she loved about working at St John of God Subiaco Hospital, Sarah said it’s the all-encompassing culture which has allowed her to make a second family at work.

“The mission and values are demonstrated in everything that we do – how we care for our patients and how we care for our fellow caregivers,” she said.

“Respect, compassion and hospitality shine through our colleagues.

“You walk through the front door and everyone is so welcoming.”
