The Lester Prize was established in 2007 and is one of the country’s richest prizes for portraiture.
St John of God Health Care has supported the competition (formerly the Black Swan Prize) since 2014, as part of its belief that arts play a significant role in the healing and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Shirley Bowen said, “It is a privilege to be affiliated with this prestigious competition and to be exhibiting such outstanding works, including Sidney Tapia’s winning portrait titled ‘Through you’, as well as ‘#Statedaddy’.
“The portrait of Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan was created by Jenny Davies, who works at our hospital’s onsite physiotherapy provider, Sportsmed.”
“I welcome members of the community to our hospital for the unique opportunity to view this wonderful collection of portraits, created by many of Australia’s most talented and respected artists.”
The portraits will be on display at the hospital until 21 January 2022.
