To celebrate the day, St John of God Subiaco Hospital nurses and midwives were treated to delicious cupcakes as thanks for the outstanding care, services and compassion they provide to patients and their visitors.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital Director of Nursing, Clinical Operations & Excellence Jenny Brenton said nurses and midwives were at the heart of the hospital.

"Their values-driven care is what makes our organisation so special. Their resilience and dedication to helping others is inspiring and makes a significant difference to the lives of those they care for,"Jenny said.

"We are truly grateful for everything they do."

St John of God Health Care Group Director Nursing and Patient Experience Dani Meinema supported Jenny's statements.

"It takes a great deal of selflessness to become a nurse. Education provides technical skills, but there are so many aspects of nursing that cannot be learned. This is probably the reason why we often hear nursing being referred to as a calling," Dani said.

"While nurses work in the same setting as others in the health care profession, their job often requires them to go the extra mile."

A special Mass, which was held in the hospital Chapel, also provided members of the hospital’s community the opportunity to pause and reflect on the invaluable contributions nurses and midwives make to the hospital and wider community.
