The Lester Prize was established in 2007 and is one of the country’s richest prizes for portraiture.

This year's 40 finalists, including 12 from Western Australia, were chosen from 750 entries received from artists across Australia.

St John of God Health Care has supported the competition since 2014 as part of its belief that arts play a significant part in the healing and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Shirley Bowen said: “We are proud to be affiliated with this prestigious competition and to be displaying works of such high calibre, including Serena Cowie’s winning portrait titled ‘The Conversation’.”

“I welcome members of the community to our hospital for the unique opportunity to view this wonderful selection of portraits created by some of Australia’s most talented and respected artists.”

In celebration of the touring exhibition, St John of God Health Care is running a competition to win a private portrait sitting with Western Australian Lester Prize finalist, Jill Ansell.

The portraits will be on display at the hospital from 10.00am to 6.00pm daily, until 5 January 2021.
