Interview with Clinical Nurse Safety, Quality and Risk, Fleur Bushell.

7 May 2020

Fleur BushellWhat year did you enter the nursing or midwifery profession?
I graduated from the Fremantle Hospital Nursing Program in 1991.

Name three reasons why this profession is so meaningful to you?
First and foremost the people I work with in the nursing profession make my job very meaningful.

Secondly, I have plenty of patients, families and fellow nurses to share my humour and big heart with.

Last but not least, I don’t like seeing anyone in physical or emotional distress. Being a nurse provides opportunities to help alleviate distress for people who cross my path. I enjoy trying to make someone’s day that little bit better.

What has been your proudest moment at St John of God Subiaco Hospital?
Four moments come to mind as my proudest moments at St John of God Subiaco Hospital.

  1. I was part of the team to successfully role out a pilot for a Case Management role which is still going at the hospital.
  2. I had the opportunity earlier in my career to act as Nurse Manager in Orthopaedics. I enjoyed meeting with senior management and our Deputy Directors of Nursing to plan our patient care and services.
  3. Hearing my family members and friends share their positive experiences at Subiaco, always makes me proud to work here.
  4. I was born at Subiaco, had my babies in our Birth Suite and I work here!
