Carine Specialist Centre celebrates first birthday

Since opening on 5 November 2018 more than 1,000 community members have benefitted from convenient access to leading specialist doctors who consult from the new facility.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Professor Shirley Bowen revealed the motivation for opening the Carine Specialist Centre was to improve the patient experience for people living in the north.

“The specialist centre provides access to the highest-quality care without the need to travel far from home,” she said.

More than 30 leading specialists who work at St John of God Subiaco or Mt Lawley hospitals are available for patient consultations at the centre, which is located on Gemstone Boulevard.

Specialties available include bariatric surgery, breast surgery, endocrine surgery, gastroenterology, general surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedics, paediatric surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery and urology.

St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital CEO Mr Paul Dyer noted that the centre provided an opportunity to further serve the community.

“When St John of God Mt Lawley first opened in 1937 and Subiaco in 1898, many of the Perth’s northern suburbs didn’t exist as they do today,” he said.

“Carine Specialist Centre gives the community more choice from two hospitals with decades of experience in delivering the best patient care.”

“With the great success of this centre thus far, the next year is an opportunity to expand the services and increase the range of specialties available at Carine.”

Located in an existing medical precinct, the centre also offers the convenience of free on-site parking and nearby access to pharmacy, pathology, general practice and dental services.

Patients can ask their general practitioner (GP) for a referral to see one of the centre’s experienced specialists and view their profile on the St John of God Carine Specialist Centre website.
