St John of God Subiaco Hospital Perioperative Resources Manager David Nash says whilst out-dated the still functional equipment is making a big difference to communities in need.

“Cambodian hospitals have very limited budgets; if they spend money on equipment then they cannot support wages for workers or buy essential supplies,” David said.

“The hospital only charges people who can afford to pay which means most are treated free of charge.

“These donations help ensure their resources can be used where they are needed most.”

David works closely with the Osborne Rotary Club which helps to ship the equipment as well as retired St John of God Subiaco Hospital Orthopaedic surgeon Tim Keenan who volunteers for the Red Cross to help in developing nations and recommended Cambodia for St John of God Subiaco Hospital to support.

David and Biomedical technicians from Medical Technologies travel to Cambodia every two years to fix and maintain the donated equipment and to train students from the biomedical course at the University of Phnom Penh who then go on to work in hospitals around Cambodia.

Preah Kossamak Hospital Medical Director Dr Brunn expressed gratitude to all involved with the donations.
