World Federation of Neurology President elected

Accomplished St John of God Subiaco Hospital Neurologist Professor William Carroll has been elected the President of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN).

19 Dec 2017

Neurology president

The prominent neurologist is internationally regarded for his work in multiple sclerosis and epilepsy.

Professor Carroll is both excited and honoured to have the opportunity to encourage the active participation of neurologists and their member societies to achieve much needed work.

“It is a matter of critical importance that neurologists and neurological services are able to meet the threat from the increasing global burden of neurological disease, I am privileged to be leading this mission,” he said.

The WFN aims to improve neurological care and education worldwide. Currently, there are major initiatives in Asia, Latin America and Africa assisted by strategic partnerships with major global organisations.

As President, Professor Carroll will oversee two successful world congresses of neurology (2019 and 2021) and expand the role of the WFN through its regional organisations and member societies. In doing so, he aims to reduce the in equalities of access to neurological care and education and enthuse the next generation of neurologists.

Dr Carrol has been a member of the federation for the past 16 years, elected in 2001 as Trustee.
