The documentary was filmed over a 24-hour period late last year at 47 health facilities across Australia using 100 cameras to create a snapshot of Australia’s health system.
One of the people included in tonight’s episode is Annie, who underwent surgery for breast cancer by breast cancer specialist Professor Christobel Saunders and plastic surgeon Mr Mark Lee at SJG Subiaco Hospital.
St John of God Subiaco Hospital will feature on the landmark documentary series “Keeping Australia Alive” on ABC
SJG Subiaco Hospital Chief Executive officer Dr Lachlan Henderson said it was exciting to be part of such a landmark documentary. Professor Saunders, Dr Lee and all others involved in the care of breast cancer patients do an outstanding job, supported by the latest research trials being conducted at the hospital.
“A big thank you to Annie for allowing ABC to film her and her husband Gerry as she underwent the surgery – on what would have been a very stressful day for them both,” he said.
“Annie agreed to be filmed to help highlight the importance of women undertaking breast cancer checks.”
As well as being diagnosed with breast cancer herself, Annie’s mother and mother in law also have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the past few years.
