St John of God Subiaco Hospital celebrated International Day of the Midwife on 5 May 2016.

This year’s theme is 'Women and Newborn - The Heart of Midwifery'.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital Director of Nursing and Midwifery Laura Colvin said last year our midwives ensured more than 3365 babies were safely born at the hospital.

“I thank all our midwives for all their efforts in ensuring all women and newborns receive the best possible care,” she said.

“As a leading provider of maternity services in Western Australia with a strong tradition of providing high quality care, we are continually looking at enhancing midwifery practice.

“As part of this, our midwives have been undertaking a number of research projects to help patients with pain management in labour.

“We are also constantly looking at new ways to improve maternal and newborn care and we thank all of our midwives for embracing the new developments and incorporating them into their midwifery practice.”

International Day of the Midwife celebrates the successes of midwives and focuses on recognising the importance of midwifery.
