Associate Professor Kynan Feeney was awarded St John of God Murdoch Hospital Doctor of the Year for 2019.
In front of his colleagues, wife and children, A/Prof Feeney was given the prestigious award by St John of God Murdoch Hospital Chief Executive Officer Ben Edwards.
Mr Edwards described A/Prof Feeney as a humble family man who has an incredible work ethic.
“A/Professor Feeney has been working at Murdoch for many years and he has been instrumental in the establishment of our very successful Cancer Centre and clinical trials. He is also the Head of Department of Oncology and Haematology here at Murdoch,” he said.
“He is a member of the Medical Advisory Committee overseeing medical services at Murdoch and also holds Adjunct Associate Professor positions at Notre Dame University, and Edith Cowan University.”
A/Professor Feeney is the principal investigator on a range of key clinical trials covering breast, melanoma, oesophageal, gastric, colorectal, lung, prostate, renal and bladder cancers.
“He has a major interest in immunotherapy and gene-directed therapies, and is currently involved with a number of cutting edge, next generation immune-based treatments aimed at putting cancers into long-term remission,” Mr Edwards said.
“We’re incredibly proud of A/Prof Feeney and he embodies our values here at Murdoch by providing excellence in care, delivered with compassion.”
A/Prof Feeney was joined on stage by his two children who presented his gift and award, during the Hospital’s annual doctors Christmas event. The celebration was held in a stunning marquee on the grounds of St John of God Murdoch Hospital on Thursday 5 December.
