The theme for this year is Making a World of Difference and Manager Volunteer Resources Helen Jackson said Murdoch had more than 120 volunteer caregivers who kindly donated their time.

“Our volunteer caregivers have a variety of roles around the Hospital from greeting visitors in our reception foyer to undertaking a range of complementary therapies in the Hospice day centre, Footprints,” she said.

“National Volunteer Week is a great chance for us to stop and recognise the fabulous volunteers in our Hospital and how much they contribute.”

Celebrating our volunteer caregivers

A special breakfast was held on Monday morning for our volunteer caregivers.

Volunteers heard from speakers relating to their refugee/migrant experiences in coming to Australia, including medical care.

This was facilitated by our Charity of the Year, Multicultural Futures, and was a fascinating insight into the lives of two new Australians.

“Here at Murdoch our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds themselves, representing more than 30 countries from around the globe,” Mrs Jackson said.

“Our collective wealth of cultural knowledge amongst volunteer caregivers is a huge asset in understanding some of the needs of patients and their families.

“It is wonderful to be in such a culturally diverse environment and reflect on our worldly connections during this National Volunteer Week.”

National Volunteer Week runs from 20-26 May.
