WAWLC is a community legal centre that provides free guidance and advice to women who are in crisis and facing disadvantage.

Director of Mission Colin Keogh said the hospital chose the WAWLC because its Mission is closely linked to that of St John of God Health Care and because it is an area of need in our community.

“One of our Values is that of ‘Justice’ and as an organisation, we continually aim to find ways in which to help the vulnerable, the disenfranchised and those in our communities who need support,” Colin said.

“We hope to be able to raise as much money as possible to help them in their vital work helping disadvantaged women gain access to our legal system.”

The WAWLC provides information about legal issues and referral to support services, legal advice, casework, community legal education and law reform advocacy. It assists clients with family law children's issues, divorce applications, domestic and family violence issues, protection and care proceedings and women's human rights issues through advocacy.

Managing Solicitor Carrie Hannington from the WAWLC says the team is delighted by the nomination and the funds raised will be of huge benefit to the Centre and its clients.

“We are very thankful to the hospital for selecting us as their nominated charity,” Ms Hannington said.

“We aim to reach as many women in our community who need support and might not otherwise be able to access legal services.”

“This donation will certainly help us to achieve this goal.”
