St Mary ward offers expert medical care for mothers and babies with the support of dedicated and highly qualified midwives and specialist lactation consultants to help mothers confidently care for their new babies.

Hospital obstetrician Christopher Gunnell says the renovations have given the ward a new lease of life.

“It has been transformed into a fresh environment that complements the amazing staff who work there,” Dr Gunnell says.

“My patients often comment on the wonderful care they receive on St Mary Ward and this renovation will bring the environment into line with the service.”

Midwifery Services Manager Sue Bradshaw also says how the renovations have had a big impact on the look and feel of the ward.

“Patients are very comfortable and are commenting on how fresh and contemporary everything looks,” Ms Bradshaw says.

“Our caregivers are also really enjoying working in the lovely new space.”

The ward offers parent education classes and access to a range of other support services – such as paediatric consultants, neonatal unit, physiotherapists, child health nurses, GP liaison, psychological and parenting support services.

Parents-to-be are also able to take midwife-led tours for an inside look at the ward on Saturdays and Sundays at 2.30pm. The tours are free of charge, no appointments are necessary and partners and support people are welcome to attend.
