Ms Cook started her career at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital as a graduate nurse in 2005 and has since held a variety of clinical and leadership positions.

She replaces incumbent Director of Nursing and Midwifery Ms Vanessa Unwin, who was recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of the hospital.

Making the announcement, Ms Unwin said Ms Cook was selected after an extensive and competitive selection process.

“Emma’s wealth of experience, coupled with her outstanding management and engagement skills will be a great asset to our leadership team and the hospital overall,” she said.

“I know she will foster culture and develop our workforce to ensure we continue to deliver the high-quality, compassionate care that our hospital is renowned for.”

Commenting on the appointment, Ms Cook said she is excited to accept the role.

“St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital is an incredibly special place – not just within the local community, but also for me personally.”

“I started as a graduate nurse and have been privileged to hold numerous roles in the organisation, including the Maternity Manager of our Family Birthing Unit and most recently, the Deputy Director of Nursing – Operations, Procedural and Obstetric Service.”

“Over the past 17 years, I have witnessed our organisation evolve to meet the changing health care needs of the Western Australian community.”

“I am honoured to continue this work and support our caregivers to deliver exceptional patient-centred care,” she said.

The appointment is effective from 20 June 2022.
