Karin will take part in the world’s oldest and largest ultramarathon in the world, the Comrades Marathon, an 89 km run through South Africa in the KwaZulu-Natal Province between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

Runners will have 12 hours to complete the course that is both physically and mentally challenging.

Karin is running to raise money for the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust that supports disadvantaged communities of the Valley of 1,000 Hills region of the KwaZulu-Natal Province – a beautiful area situated directly on the route.

This area is currently considered one of the epicentres of the global HIV / AIDS pandemic with HIV infection rates as high as 40 per cent. As a Clinical Dietitian this charity is especially close to her as she has trained in this area and worked with people in the community with HIV / Aids.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to give back and make a small difference in the lives of my fellow South African’s, she said

“Ironically, even though I am a Dietician I have found keeping up with the food intake challenging as I have expelled so much energy throughout the training process.

Karin has completed her final preparations including a 30 km run with 28 other Perth-based Comrades participants and the HBF Run for Reason half-marathon with the St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital team.
