We like to make sure you are involved as we share your care needs between those looking after you over the day. We also use a whiteboard to note the latest information for the benefit of you and your loved ones.
Midwifery Manager Emma Cook says this practice goes a long way to making sure our patients feel involved and informed about their care.
“At the change of shift, the nurse or midwife caring for you writes their name on the whiteboard so you are aware of the team looking after you,” says Emma.
“The whiteboard is also used to record important information about the care planned for the day, including your medication regime and when we anticipate you will be ready to go home.
“By providing this information in a visual way, you and your loved ones can be more involved in your care.”
Carrying out a patient-inclusive bedside handover is also an important part of your care.
Jasmine, who recently had twins at SJG Mt Lawley Hospital, says she felt more comfortable when her midwives included her in the handover process.
“As a patient, I felt a bit vulnerable as I was entrusting my care to others,” says Jasmine.
“My midwives openly shared the handover with me and this gave me plenty of opportunities to ask questions about what to expect during the rest of my stay. It was also great to see the caregivers sharing information about my care.
“For me, having both written information on the whiteboard and being included in the handover, gave me a sense of control in a situation where I felt quite vulnerable.”
We encourage you to be a partner in your care by making sure you check out your whiteboard and ask questions if you are concerned or feel you do not have the information you need.
This helps us care for you in the best possible way.
