Clinical Nurse Kay Michaels has firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing those as
a breast cancer survivor.

Kay is now looking to pay it forward by wearing a purple bra on Friday 23 June as part of Purple Bra Day.

“Purple Bra Day is run by Breast Cancer Care WA, an organisation that provides wonderful support for people with breast cancer,” says Kay.

“Throughout my struggle with breast cancer, they gave invaluable emotional and physical support that I very much needed, particularly as all of my family were over east.

“People working for the organisation keep a close eye on those of us going through treatment, helping financially with bills and providing counselling, regular health and wellbeing sessions and also helping with education about breast cancer.

“They helped in so many ways, even putting me in touch with the Cancer Council to organise a cleaning service to help me out every fortnight. Importantly they worked alongside to me to get me ready to return to work.

“I would love the opportunity to get everybody involved in raising funds and also raising awareness through Purple Bra Day."

Ms Chris Hanna, Chief Executive Officer is encouraging all caregivers to join in the Purple Bra Day celebrations.

“We have a strong sense of community at this hospital, and we are happy to support Kay in her fundraising efforts,” says Chris.

“There are lots of things we can do as teams, and as individuals, to help raise money on Friday 23 June.

“Come to work wearing a purple bra, wear something purple, hold a cupcake sale – there are lots of opportunities for us to have a bit of fun while supporting this worthy cause.

“It would be great if people could give a gold coin donation to collection tins that will be throughout the hospital.”
