Our maternity service is fondly steeped in the history of so many Perth families, who have either been born, or given birth at the hospital over its 80 year history.
St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital Chief Executive Officer Chris Hanna expressed her appreciation for our midwifery team, and for the many positive reviews we receive about the wonderful care families receive.
“We have a dynamic and engaged midwifery team, who are committed to providing the very highest standard of care for mums, families and babies.
“As a midwife myself, it is fantastic to take time to reflect on the role midwives play in what is the most important day in these families’ lives,” says Chris.
Hospital Director of Nursing and Midwfiery Vanessa Unwin agrees and says our midwifery team offer an extremely family oriented approach to women and their partners.
“We have such a community feel at the hospital, and we offer care from the very beginning of a mother’s journey,” says Vanessa.
“Our parent education classes have been specially crafted so that we offer options for either first time mothers, or those who have already had children and need a refresher.
“We also have an onsite lactation consultant who can help new mums that may find breastfeeding tricky.
“Our Midwifery Manager, Emma Cook – who is a finalist in this week’s WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards – started our maternity blog, which was part of her Masters Degree at Edith Cowan University. She is now undertaking a Doctorate.”
We would love to hear from you if you have a wonderful experience and would like to acknowledge a midwife who made a difference. Feel free to comment on our Facebook page and make sure to hashtag your post with #IDM2017
