Maternity meet and greet event gives people a SJG Mt Lawley Hospital experience

With International Day of the Midwife being held tomorrow, on Friday 5 May, we celebrated this year’s theme ‘Midwives, mothers and families: partners for life!’ with our own exclusive ‘meet and greet’ event at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital.

St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital Chief Executive Officer Chris Hanna said the event fitted perfectly with the theme of International Day of the Midwife, showcasing our efforts to partner with those looking forward to having a baby.

“Our meet and greet event offered people a fantastic opportunity to meet one-on-one with five of our obstetricians to find out more about the obstetrician’s areas of interest, and to ask any questions about pregnancy and birth,” says Chris.

“We also offered the opportunity for people considering a pregnancy or who are already pregnant to sit down with two of our midwives to find out what to expect from our hospital regarding parent education, lactation support and other ways we look after our mums and their families.

“A physiotherapist was also available to provide lots of information about preparing for pregnancy, and what is offered to mums once their babies have been born to help them recover.

"Guests were then taken for an exclusive tour of our maternity ward, with a bedroom prepared so they could see to expect should they decide to come to our hospital to have their baby.

“It was a fantastic evening and I really hope those who came along left our event with a really great understanding of the wonderful things we offer here at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital."

The event comes as our Midwifery Manager, Emma Cook is a finalist in the ‘Excellence in Midwifery’ category at this year’s WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards.
