The program aims to enhance the wellbeing of patients by providing them with a creative outlet and welcome distraction during their hospital stay.

St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals Coordinator of Volunteer Services Jenni Brown said volunteers will run on-the-ward activities from a mobile art trolley, engaging patients of varying abilities in a creative experience.

“Creative activities can have a positive impact on the wellbeing of our patients, shifting their focus away from their circumstance and providing a creative outlet for them, which can help them to feel calmer and happier.

“The program will also give patients’ relatives peace of mind that their loved one has the opportunity to engage in stimulating activities during their hospital stay.

“The program is based on similar programs at other hospitals, which have shown benefits to patients, especially those staying in hospital for long periods of time.”
