Information for boarders

A boarder is a support person; parent, relative or friend over the age of 18 who accompanies a patient or stays overnight with a patient, subject to their consent.

A boarder may receive overnight accommodation and food from the hospital.

Boarders may only stay overnight if you stay in a single room. Boarders are permitted at our discretion as it may be necessary to restrict the number of boarders in a ward at any time for health and safety reasons.

We make every attempt to make your stay as comfortable as possible and this includes keeping your family close.

Is there a boarding charge?

No. You will be advised how long you can stay in hospital at the time of admission.

Parents with babies or children

When your child comes to hospital for surgery or a procedure, one parent is encouraged to stay at hospital. Bedding is provided where available in the paediatric ward.

Mothers who are required to come to hospital for a planned or emergency procedure may bring their breastfed baby to hospital. If this is the case, please speak to your doctor or pre-admission nurse to make suitable arrangements.

Boarder registration

All boarders are asked to provide their personal details and sign a Boarder Registration Form. This ensures boarders understand the conditions of boarding and we can account for boarders within our emergency procedures.
