Sisters still have connection to hospitals through volunteering

Whilst the Sisters of St John of God are no longer involved in the day to day running of St John of God hospitals a few sisters contribute through volunteering at a number of our hospitals including St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals.

Since opening Sister Gratiae has been providing a friendly supportive presence to patients and caregivers in our private wards and said she always introduces herself to patients and states her role as a friendly face along their journey.

“I really enjoy my volunteer work and being able to contribute to the experience of patients brings me joy," Sr Gratiae said.

"I feel I receive so much more than I give.

“Volunteering at the hospital fills me with pride at my experience and observance of the wonderful quality of health care provided at this facility.”

Sr Gratiae encourages anyone who is able to become a volunteer and she hopes to continue her volunteer work as long as possible.

Over the past 60 years she has served in a number of capacities at a St John of God hospital including 12 years as a registered nurse.

Previously, Sister Gratiae worked in patient accounts at the Subiaco and the Rivervale hospitals.

Prior to her retirement she worked for 17 years as a receptionist at the Murdoch hospital.
