The program provides graduate nurses with a supportive and caring environment as they begin their nursing career.

Clinical Nurse Learning and Development Lee Ackland will be guiding the pair throughout the year as they developed their clinical skills while also providing mentoring and coaching throughout their rotations, including both wards and theatre.

Emily, who is from Melbourne, said she was excited to starting her career in the regional city.

"I studied a Bachelor of Nursing at Deakin University back in Victoria. I chose Nursing as a career so I can make a small difference in the world. I am looking forward to working at St John of God Geraldton Hospital as it’s a tight knit community with lots of friendly faces," she said.

While Francis, who is from Fremantle, was attracted to the hospital after completing a university placement at St John of God Subiaco Hospital.

“I decided to take up the opportunity to complete my graduate year at St John of God Geraldton Hospital as I believe this organisation offers a real individual approach to nurturing and training their new caregivers. We are not just another number," she said.

"While studying at the University of Notre Dame Australia, I was able to experience a glimpse of this during my clinical placement at St John of God Subiaco Hospital, that I thoroughly enjoyed. I chose the regional city of Geraldton as I wanted to experience a small town feel and become part of a close knit, friendly community to support me in my first year as a registered nurse."
