Meet Ashley Lewis our Physiotherapy Manager
What does a typical day in your role involve?
My role is primarily ensuring the governance of the physiotherapy department is maintained, this includes exercise physiology, hydrotherapy and some of the outpatient groups including oncology, pulmonary and cardiac rehabilitation. I will also work clinically to support the department as required. There is a lot involved in ensuring the department provides the excellent care to our patients and I work in partnership with caregivers to ensure this happens.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in this field?
I was always very physical and sport minded growing up with a keen interest in fitness and general health. This passion led me to do physiotherapy as my undergraduate degree. Various opportunities eventuated to take on more of a managerial role within physiotherapy and I developed an interest in that side of health.
What do you like best about your job?
I enjoy working as part of a team to produce an environment for caregivers to provide best care. For me it is all about the patient and their needs, what we can do to assist in their journey of returning to optimal health. If we do that then the patient is satisfied, the caregivers are satisfied and we have an environment that also engenders creativity to continually work at doing things better.
What has been a memorable moment working at St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital?
It is difficult to describe just one moment, I have been excited by the fact we have recommenced a successful student program, a quality and education program, an environment where caregivers can come up with ideas and try things in a supportive way. All due to the quality of the caregivers that are part of St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital.
