Exercise physiology provides exercise based rehabilitation for a range of conditions such as chronic pain, diabetes, arthritis, cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Exercise physiologist Sam Buchanan said exercise programs were tailored to help patients achieve their individual goals, with patients able to access the hospital’s fully equipped gym.
“The aim of exercise physiology is to help prevent or manage conditions and assist patients in restoring their optimum physical function, health and wellbeing,” Sam said.
“A big part of my role is providing support and advice to patients to ensure they stay motivated to achieve their rehabilitation goals.”
Programs are available to inpatients and outpatients involved in the falls and balance, Parkinson’s disease, cardiac, pulmonary and oncology group programs.
“We work directly with patients and as a part of multidisciplinary team, including rehabilitation physicians, to design programs which are achievable and enjoyable for patients,” Sam said.
