Lucky (a Whippet) and Badger (an English Cocker Spaniel) get their pats and attention on a weekly basis when they provide pet therapy at the hospital.

St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital Chief Executive Officer Sally Faulkner said the therapy dogs were very popular with patients and staff alike.

“It’s amazing to see how something as simple as spending time with dogs helps improve patients motivation, as well as their physical, social and emotional well-being,” she said.

“They help alleviate the sometimes lonely and stressful times patients experience while recovering after surgery, illness or accidents.”

The pet therapy is provided by Delta Society Australia, a not-for-profit organisation which provides pet therapy opportunities throughout Australia.
