The Minister, Bronnie Taylor, toured the hospital’s Mother and Baby Unit which cares for mothers who are experiencing perinatal mental health issues including depression and anxiety, and their babies.

Perinatal Psychiatrist Professor Marie-Paule Austin, who leads the unit, spoke with the Minister to highlight the important role the facility provides in caring for women during the perinatal period.

Patients were also able to share their mental health experiences with Ms Taylor, and explain the role St John of God Burwood Hospital’s Mother and Baby Unit was playing in their recovery.

“It was wonderful to be able to showcase the unit to the Minister, share the real experiences of our patients and demonstrate just how important our care is to helping women and their babies during this crucial time,” Professor Austin said.
