The new app allows wellness to be part of everyday thinking for patients – anytime, anywhere.

Chief Executive Officer of St John of God Burwood Hospital, June Mattner, says the app is a step forward in providing services to patients in line with their evolving expectations around digital technologies.

“We wanted to develop an app to help people manage and continue to maintain wellness after their stay at St John of God Burwood Hospital,” June said.

“It was important to provide something that promoted wellness, was portable and easy to use and I am confident we have delivered on that brief.”

“This planning App allows the individual to take control; out and about, on the train, on the bus, when waiting, or even when just resting at home.”

The Wellness App can be used to plan for continued mental health upon discharge through four main components:

  • goal planning
  • strategies for coping with challenges
  • organising pleasant activities, and
  • appointment tracking

Additionally, users have easy access to read useful information on a range of relevant topics including medication knowhow, staying connected and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“In addition to practical task creation and support information the Wellness app provides ideas around fun activities like cooking a new recipe or having a picnic in the park,” June said.

“This digital move allows St John of God Burwood Hospital to be at the forefront of collaboration with our patients. As we continue to refine and evolve the Wellness application we hope to add more sections in order to further improve the mental health journey for our patients.”

Patients are given information on how to download and use the App as part of their preparation to discharge from St John of God Burwood Hospital.
