Opportunity knocks for Pema

The opportunity to work in critical care nursing once again drove Registered Nurse Pema Lhaden to join St John of God Bunbury Hospital six months ago.

After spending two years in Perth working in a range of specialties in various private and public hospitals, Pema wanted to get back to nursing in her area of passion – critical care.

“I come from Bhutan and I had already worked for seven years as a nurse primarily in intensive care before coming to Australia,” she said.

“I really wanted to go back into this environmental and update my knowledge in this area which I really love.

“I was lucky to get a job opportunity to work in critical care here in Bunbury and I had always wanted to explore the South West region of Western Australia so I was really happy to accept the role.”

Pema has now worked at the hospital for six months and said she felt a part of the community.

“When you are newcomer you always worry that you may not be welcomed but I have not felt that, everyone is very supportive and welcoming and I feel like I am contributing to the health care of our community,” she said.

Pema said she had so far loved living in Bunbury too.

“It is a small community and very peaceful but there are so many activities to do in Bunbury and the surrounding areas,” she said.
