Opportunities abound after moving from New Zealand to Australia

If anyone can convince you that a move to Australia, is a good choice, it’s Cecille ─ a perioperative clinical educator at St John of God Berwick Hospital, who relocated to Melbourne from New Zealand in early 2022.

When asked what she likes about Berwick, Cecille lists the cultural activities on offer, access to the public and private health care sectors, schools, cuisines, friends and the close proximity to parks, restaurants, sea and snow as the defining factors for her decision to move here and stay permanently.

“I just love being with friends and travelling,” she says.

“It’s very close, everything is accessible.”

Cecille also notes that if you have any concerns about not being able to enjoy your favourite dishes from home, then you have no need to worry when you’re living in Berwick.

“The food is great. You would never miss eating somewhere – there’s Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean,” Cecille says.

She also adds that there are plenty of restaurants to visit and shows to go and see too.

Impressed with the reputation that St John of God Berwick Hospital has with regard to looking after its patients and caregivers, Cecille was motivated to move countries for the opportunity to work at St John of God Health Care.

“There’s flexibility of working the hours that you would prefer or would like in order to have a balance between your career and family,” Cecille says.

Highlighting the willingness for team members to be ready to help, Cecille also appreciates working with a “group of people who are really engaging and supportive. If you talk about team work ─ this is where you go.”

Opportunities are something else that Cecille values.

“I have a very supportive team from the learning and development group, as well as my managers and the clinicians I have in perioperative services,” she says.

Citing various training programs she’s already undertaken during her short time with St John of God Berwick Hospital, Cecille also points out that there are always opportunities for continuous learning.

“Hopefully I will do a little more studying so we can be the best we can be in our service,” she says.

And if you’re still not convinced to make the move despite Cecille’s glowing report of St John of God Berwick Hospital, she’s happy to reiterate her thoughts on the matter of relocation.

“You’ve got the amenities. You’ve got the health services. And you’ve got a hospital here that looks after its staff and its patients with the best care that we can. So come join us!”
