Accord artists paint a pretty picture at St John of God Berwick Hospital

A very special group of artists have displayed their work as part of St John of God Berwick Hospital's Community Art Project.

The artists are clients from St John of God Accord Greensborough who have intellectual disabilities. Last week, the happy team of creatives visited the hospital in Berwick and were treated to a special tour and viewing of their collection, which is on display in the hospital's ground floor consulting suites.

To date, the hospital Community Art Project has seen a variety of local artists exhibit their works, but this display holds a special meaning to caregivers from both sites.

"It's been an absolute pleasure to work with our colleagues from Accord to showcase the work that they have been doing with their clients," says Rhonda O'Connor, St John of God Berwick Hospital Director of Mission.

"The artists- Sam, Gaye, Michael and Pam- were delightful. They were so excited to see their pieces of art on display for everyone.

"It's a great way for two divisions of St John of God Healthcare to work together in line with our values. We really do look forward to the next exhibition of art from the Accord clients.

"We created our community art project for this very reason. We are proud of the connections we have with local artists, schools and art groups and are thrilled that we have been able to extend this same hospitality to artists within our very own organisation."

St John of God Accord specialises in supporting clients with intellectual disabilities, but also supports people with disabilities of all types to reach their full potential and experience opportunities of their choice. Making a difference in the lives of the people they support is their approach to providing services in partnership with their clients, their families, and the broader community to achieve the best possible outcomes. An art program, including a wide variety of mediums like painting and pottery, is one of the ways the Accord team support these beautiful people they care for.

The St John of God Accord artwork is on display at St John of God Berwick Hospital until May 31st, 2018.
