“When I took this job, I didn’t expect it to be a long-term career choice,” says Maree Airdrie who recently celebrated 25 years of service at St John of God Berwick Hospital’s Gibb Street location.
“But it’s the compassionate and caring culture that keeps you here,” admits Maree, adding that the approachable nature of management means that you’re always treated equally and as part of a team.
“I feel supported in the workplace—with management offering encouragement and assistance when necessary,” she says.
The proximity from work to home, while appealing, isn’t the only thing that Maree rates as an important reason why she’s stayed committed to the hospital for so long.
“I really like living close to where I work, but I love the friendly nature and atmosphere here more. It’s like working with family,” Maree explains.
“To be honest, it hasn’t been a hardship going to work when you’re always met with a ‘hello!’, “how are you?’ or ‘your hair looks good today’. Not to mention, there’s been a lot of fun and good times to be had over the years,” she says with a wink.
St John of God Berwick hospital promotes flexible work options and a commitment to work-life-balance.
