Dan committed to shaving his head to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation after observing the trauma that his fellow SJGBH Theatre colleague, Yvonne Beagley, went through over the past year as her 22-year-old daughter Melissa fought a rare acute Leukaemia.

In support of Dan’s efforts, Acting Theatre Nurse Unit Manager, Chelsea Burgmann and Chef, Karan Veersingh jumped on board and pledged to shave their hair as well.

A sausage sizzle was held in the hospital’s central courtyard where caregivers and volunteers gathered to watch as Director of Nursing Lisa Evans and Finance Manager Jennifer Waters shaved the heads of the three participants. Cash donations were collected at the event and the hospital’s social media platforms were used to share the fundraising links.

The hospital is extremely proud of the three caregivers and their display of compassion. Following a bone marrow transplant, Melissa’s health continues to improve and the team at SJGBH wish her all the very best in health and healing.

A total of $2910 was raised. Donations will continue to be accepted until the end of March via the following links:
