The Ballarat Innovation and Research Collaboration for Health (BIRCH) will bring together researchers across a range of disciplines to tackle issues in health.
BIRCH is a collaboration between Ballarat's two major hospitals, and six universities throughout Victoria. The full list of organisations involved in the collaboration are below:
Hospitals
- St John of God Ballarat Hospital
- Ballarat Health Services
- Federation University
- Deakin University
- Melbourne University
- La Trobe University
- Australian Catholic University
- University of Notre Dame
BIRCH will develop a focal point for research that will then be translated to healthcare practice in our region.
BIRCH is one of the Central Highlands Regional Partnership's key health priorities.
The funding will be used to establish the Collaboration and to scope further funding and development requirements.
Minister for Regional Development, the Hon. Jaala Pulford, was excited for what this collaboration could do for research in the region.
“Ballarat has some amazing medical research already taking place, and this project will bring this excellence together to achieve more and put Ballarat researchers in the spotlight,” she said.
